Krista Ramsey's Speech
Hey guys! So if you're in Mrs.Palmer's class, you know that Krista Ramsey, the columnist, came to the school and talked to a lot of 9th graders about what she does and shared some of the stories she wrote about. I think that one of the stories that I thought was really interesting was one where all of the victims and the witnesses and the accused were all 14. I was interested in it because I can relate to it because that would've been my peers and they were my age. I never really thought people my age were capable of murder like that. When she talked about it, I was so surprised and being the same age, that kind of stuff isn't on my mind.
A lot of stuff that she said, spoke to me. One of the quotes that I really liked was "We spend a lot of valuable time on awful people" I like this quote because it's the truth! We spend our time on people who aren't worth it. People who treat us like we're nothing are the ones we value the most and the ones we want to be with and around. It doesn't make sense but it's the total truth. Another quote that really kind of got my attention was "You have to develop your voice" I think that this quote is talking to everyone that has ever been shushed or put out. Find your voice! I don't mean to be a cliché machine and sit here lecturing you on life lessons and all but I speak the truth. That's all I've got today. Peace.✌

Designer Babies
WOAAH! Did you know that soon you'll be able to make your own babies? Scientists are descovering new technology so you can tell them what kind of baby you'd like to have. I think that is sooo cool! But I mean at the same time, I dont think that would be fair to some of the parents that wouldnt be able to afford it, causing some jealousy and chaos. So what they are doing is toying with the DNA and adding personality traits into it. I have a few questions.
- What would happen to the society if this was actually made possible?
- Do you think that making their own babies and when the kids dont come out like they want them to will start something bad?

New Moon Dets!
Helloo. These are the best things about my book and what i like about it and the characterization, etc. Today is about my characters in New Moon. I think that the characters were well developed and are full, dynamic characters. Each character (or most of them) go through a change in the book and are changed for the better. For example: In chapter 1, Jasper tries to "eat" Bella when he smells her finger bleeding. He races after her and then is caught by Emmett and Edward. Currently, Jasper apologized to her and they are on good terms.
Most of the characters do not use strong or formal diction, but there is an exception; Carlisle. In the book He mostly speaks in a formal tone and with lots of jargon.
Stephanie Meyer writes in language that i can understand and it's easy to read. I really like the book and I believe that she mostly writes in 2nd person point of view. Bella is the main character and it's written in her P.O.V. My favorite character is Rosalie. I like her attitude and her sassyness. I think I could relate to her. She comes off as fierce but she does it for the good of everyone around her and her family. That's really all I can say about this book. I love the Twilight Saga movies but the books are a definite better choice!

Book Talk: New Moon/Bernadette/Lovely Bones
Hi! Today's going to be a little different. I know that I've been talking about The Lovely Bones a lot in the past few weeks and I know it hasnt been that interesting but to be honest, not much has happened in my book and I got bored with it. On April 23rd I won a book called Where'd You Go, Bernadette? and I didnt like the way it was written. It was written in lettera, emails and only a little bit of normal book stuff, yanno? I don't know if you've ever read a book like that but I don't like it that much. Thanks to Maddie, I didnt get the book I really wanted, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I absoloutely LOVE that book and Maddie took it! Thanks Maddie, if you're reading this..
Sooo I dissed that book and went back to an old one New Moon (if you couldn't tell by the title). Yes this is one of the Twilight series books. I have seen & own all of the Twilight movies but I never got around to reading them. I know!! I broke my own rule. Anyway, I wanted to talk about the figurative language in it. This book has a lot of imagery when she describes her dream at the beginning. "I stared at myself, looking for some sign of impending wrinkles in my ivory skin. The only creases were the ones on my forehead, though, I knew that if I could manage to relax, they would disappear." (Meyer 7) I think this line shows great imagery in how she describes herself and her grandma reflection. Thats all for this week! Have a great day! :)

Lovely Bones & Charlie St. Cloud
BAM! YOUR BROTHER/SISTER IS DEAD! What do you do? Well there's really nothing you can do. In my book,The Lovely Bones, It reminds me a lot of the movie Charlie St. Cloud. In these two books/ movies, it shows the main characters and the people who are dead and the struggles of their family. I think that The Lovely Bones resembles Charlie St. Cloud because both of the main characters are dead and their siblings are struggling. I have watched Charlie St. Cloud but I'm waiting until I finish The Lovely Bones to watch the movie. In CTS, this little boy's brother dies in a car accident and he sees him a lot, like he visits him and thats kind of how Susie does in my book. I also think thst Lindsey, Susie's younger sister and Sam, Charlie's younger brother are a lot alike.
Sam and Lindsey both go through a change as their older sibling is dead and in my opinion become stronger as a person and is able to go through whatever is thrown at them. The Lovely Bones and Charlie St. Cloud are two books that have simular plot lines that are truly amazing. I definitely reccommend both of these great titles and encourage you to read! So how would you try and become stronger if your sibling had died? I honestly think I would go a little crazy. Comment! Bye guyss! Happy Earth Day!

The Five Second Rule
Hey guys! So today I'm gonna blog about an article that I read in the Upfront Magazine about the five second rule; obviously. Students at Aston University in England, tested on how fast bacteria gets on food dropped on 3 different surfaces. I was actually surprised that on dry foods like cookies and toast are germ free for 30 seconds! But on the other hand, moist foods like pasta or gummy bears are only good for about 5 seconds.
I think that the study was kind of pointless but then again, the five second rule really works and is true. No more rumors! Don't get me wrong, I'm not telling you to eat food off the floor at all! EW! And the scientists agree with me and prefer the zero second rule instead of the five second considering the bacteria will get you sick. I just thought that was intersting and I wanted to share it with you! If you wanna read it, click on Upfront to read a simular article about it :)

The Lovely Bones.. Still!
Oh Lord, guys! I'm STILL on The Lovely Bones. I know, I know it must be getting pretty boring but I make it pretty interesting so I mean c'mon, who doesn't want to hear me talk? :) I think this time I'm going to blog about the vocabulary in the book/ Sorry if I've already done it but I'm gonna do it again and this is what I've observed so far:
The vocabulary is pretty low and informal. I believe it's more slang and dialect because it's in the view point of a fourteen year old. The sentences are mostly 8-20 words long so I would call them balanced/ short sentences. I like the simpleness of the book becasue I can understand it pretty well and I like that in my books.
The imagery is pretty descriptive and there is a lot of figurative language in the book and it's used well. This might sound a bit wierd but when she describes what her killer like does (I.E.: "he cut my body into slits") i think it's really interesting and I like the way it's described.
That's all for this week! Bye guys (:

Interesting Things About My Book
hey guys so I'm still on my wonderful book,"The Lovely Bones", and I really like it. I think that Alice Sebold (author) did a really good job writing the book to give it voice and personality. I am on the part where a neighbor of the killer's dog finds Susie's arm in the cornfield she was murdered in. The best thing about my book is that the diction isn't too formal because it's put in perspective of a teenage girl and us teens don't use that much proper language. I think it's the best thing about it because i mean who wants to read a book with words you don't even know in it? Like my grandparents always say, "If the ingredients list has three or more words that you don't know in it, it's bad for you". I know that ingredients has really nothing to do with a book but it kind of relates.
The worst thing about my book is that Susie and the reader already knows who killed her but none of the neighbors or teachers or even family members know who did and it's literally killing me! Ugh the anticipation is just so big I can't stand it. It's like waiting for someone to open a present that you already know what it is. I mean, the fact that it has that element in the book makes it even better. I'm not saying that the book is just terrible because it has that element in it. Just on a personal note, it bugs me. Anyway, I will keep you updated :) BTW, a thanks to Mrs. Palmer for letting me borrow this book, I surely appreciate it ! Bye now! (:

Lovely Bones Characterization
Hola guys! I am still on the same book ,The Lovely Bones, and I think I love it! I mean it's really well written and has lots of good details and and well developed characters. #greatestbookever. The main character's name is Susie Salmon and she's dead. Nice way to start a book right?! Ha. Anyway, I don't remember what I said about her last week but she looks down on earth and watches the people around her and pretty much watches people try and catch her killer. (Again, sorry if I repeated any info!) This week is going to be a little bit different and I took this idea from our "Blogger Prompts" we got in class like way back in totes first tri. The prompt is: "Describe a conversation that you would have with a character from your book. What would this conversation sound like?" So if I would to have a conversation with Susie, this is a few questions I would ask her:
I think that if I did have the chance to talk to Susie, I would have a lot to ask her! Wouldn't you? I think it would be so cool to be able to take a character out of the book and talk to them and see what they would do.
- How's heaven?
- Do you think they will find out who killed you?
- Do you ever wish you could just talk to people and tell them who did it? Just to get the rumors straight?
- If you were alive, and rumors were going around about someone you liked, would you say something?
I think that if I did have the chance to talk to Susie, I would have a lot to ask her! Wouldn't you? I think it would be so cool to be able to take a character out of the book and talk to them and see what they would do.
Challenge of The Day: If you were to have a conversation with a character out of a book, who would it be? What would you say to them/ ask them? Have fun! Au revior! (: #COTD

The Lovely Bones
Hey everyone! So I'm just starting a new book called "The Lovely Bones" as you can probably tell by the title. It's a really good book so far and I really like it. I chose this book to read because I've heard of a lot of people reading it and I know it's a movie but I've never seen it. I am NOT going to watch the movie. It's against everything I stand for. I have to finish the book before I watch the movie. So pretty much Suzie tells the story from heaven. She's dead and she watches as the cops try and catch her killer. I don't really know what's going to happen but i hope i find out soon! So I have a few questions:
- Are they ever going to catch her killer?
- Will her sister be able to overcome her sadness?
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery genres or a kind of suspenseful book. Even though I'm only on page 45, i still believe that anyone would like it! About 200 more pages left to go until I can find the movie on Netflix andwatch it! Well, that's all i got for this week! Next week I will definitey have more dets! Caio! :)

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Review (NO SPOILERS!)
Hey peeps! Pretty sure you've heard of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower movie. But did you know there's a book too?! At first, I went to see the movie THEN read the book. DO NOT DO THAT. Read the book first and then watch the movie. Overall I would say that the book will knock your socks off! Fife-teen year old Charlie is coping with the suicide of his best friend Michael. To help cope with his anxiety of high school and fear of not fitting in, he writes letters to a stranger that he's never met in person before. At school, Charlie finds a friend in his English teacher. He also overcomes his chronic shyness and approaches a classmate, Patrick, who, along with his step-sister Sam, become two of Charlie's Bestest Friends. During the course of the school year, Charlie has his first date and his first kiss, he deals with bullies, he experiments with drugs and drinking, and he makes friends, loses them, and gains them back.
He creates his own soundtrack through a series of mix tapes full of iconic songs, reads a huge stack of classic books, and gets involved in the Rocky Horror Picture Show audience-participation culture.Charlie has a relatively stable home life, though, with supportive, if distant, parents to fall back on. Unfortunately, a disturbing family secret that Charlie has repressed for his entire life surfaces at the end of the school year. Charlie has a severe mental breakdown and ends up hospitalized. Charlie's final letter closes with feelings of hope: getting released from the hospital, finding new friends, and overcoming his fear of high school. I really enjoyed this book and hope that you'll like it too. REMEMBER: Don't watch the movie, until you've read the book! :) Caio!

The Superbowl XLVII AND English Class.. What?!
Hey hey hey! So I was pretty proud of myself this weekend when I watched the Superbowl. Now, normally I'm not that interested in football or how to play it or why we play it but I was pretty excited to watch this year's Superbowl. I was betting it all on the Seahawks and nobody would believe me! So ha! In your face. The Seahawks won an incredible 43 to 8. Wow, Payton.. That's kind of sad. Seattle wasn't such a great team last year and Denver was! At first, i was just in it for the commercials but then i started to engagingly watch it. My reactions were like "Wow! Good field goal" and "Holy crap did you see that pass?!" I was a totally different person this weekend. I felt like I was in Football Mode instead of Girly Teenager mode. When I was younger, I used to sit up in my dad's lap and watch TV with him all day long. Now don't get me wrong, I love my dad. I would just rather be alone now than sitting in my dad's lap. I think I'm a little big now.
Overall, i would say the game was pretty good. I was really interested in it..and that was sooo unlike me. Rooting for the Seahawks was a smart thing to do, I think. Everyone was saying that the Broncos we're going to slay em'! I was different and said the opposite team. So what does the Superbowl have anything to do with 9th grade English? Well this week we did a mini project on themes and how they are important to a story and how they pertain to everyday life. My group got assigned a theme about self individuality and why it's important to be different. Well I just showed you a prime example of how self individuality is shown in everyday life. I picked the Seahawks when about 3 out of 5 people were going with the Broncos. I expressed my individuality and i was being different! Yay me! So that's all I've got this week. I haven't read that much but i still read a little. Next week will be about my independent reading book, promise! hugs and kisses, bye! (:

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Hey guy! It's blog time. So I got a new book called Speak. Maybe you've heard of it, I know a lot of my friends have. I just started the book a few days ago and I really like it! It's about a girl named Melinda who over the summer crashed a party when she was still an eight grader. Because of that, her friends have ditched her and nobody will talk to her accept the new student at Merryweather. The setting of the book is Merryweather High School, and is set in modern time and is written in a weird way. The way the author writes it, its like a newspaper article and has a lot of subheadings. For example, there's no chapters instead when Melinda encounters another class or a situation, there's a heading.
I noticed that the vocabulary in the book is mostly common language with not much good diction. Melinda I would say is a round character so far, she's well developed and has a lot of description to who she is. Along with what's going on right now, I have a few predictions of what's going to happen later on in the book: I think that Melinda will finally say something about what happened over the summer and tell the truth about what really happened and her friends will talk to her again. I also think that she'll meet someone that she falls in love with and she will open up to them. I would recommend this book to anyone. I'm about a fourth of the way through and it's really interesting. I can't put it down! Literally! Well, that's all I have for now. Talk to you soon! Byieee

Farenheit 451
Hi everyone! In our English class, we started a book called Farenheit 451. So far I like it and I think it's really futuristic and interesting. The book is about a fireman who burns books. You can tell that it's futuristic because now, firemen put out fires instead of starting them. On the way home, Montag (the fireman) meets a girl named Clarisse who's seventeen and who I believe might read. See, reading is illegal in the book.
The government prevents any uprisings or people thinking by burning the books (censorship). The setting of the book is in the future, I would probably say around 2075 and I know it's in the modern US. " The jet bombers going over, going over, going over, one two, one two, one two, six of them, nine of them, twelve of them.." This line is showing that it's sort of in the future because we don't really have jet bombers now. I have some predictions about the book and what I think is going to happen:
- Will Montag revolt?
- Does Clarisse read and will the government find out?
So i have a video about Ray Bradbury and it's pretty interesting! Take a look!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL_y6gtxLvQ
That's all for now, peeps! Byieeee! :)

Chronicles of Vladimir Tod
Hey hey hey! Yeah, I know we've been on winter break and had 2 snow days but I recently bought a book that I've heard of before and I've seen people reading it but I never have! It's called The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod. It's about a boy who's half vampire and half human, he's like Bella and Edward's baby on Twilight. Sorry, had to mention them. He seems like a regular 13 year old but he is actually the future ruler of enslaving the human race. He lives off of blood bags from his aunt's hospital and raw meat that he gets. He believes that he's the only vampire left on earth but I think there's more than just him. I've only read about half the book and it doesn't say anything about any other vampires but it just cant be like that! There has to be more! So I have a few questions:
- Are there other vampires other than just Vlad?
- Is Vlad's father alive?
